user script didn't work as expected. When looking up the user-data in the completed Ec2 instance it states that the installation of the apache server failied. Otherwise the flow of the lab was very good

Initialization script or the EC2 instance itself does not start in a timely fashion, wait condition usually fails for Template3 with the given wait times in the exercise.

Good overview of CloudFormation, but there are deltas between the written instructions and the CF templates. Most significant was the instructions referenced t2 instance types requiring HVM AMIs, but these didn't work with the applied policies. The provided templates did work, but used m1 instance types with PV AMIs.
